Le 21 juin, venez assister à la présentation des
Impressions de Plantes d'Alexandre de Humboldt et d'Aimé Bonpland
Cet ouvrage contenant des impressions inédites du
manuscrit (Ms988) est conservé à la Bibliothèque de l'Institut de France.
La présentation sera accompagnée d'une projection des impressions du manuscrit et d'une signature de l'ouvrage en présence du commissaire de l'exposition Le voyage Américain d'Alexandre de Humboldt (1799-1804), Claudia Isabel Navas.

The works presented in the show Beyond Borders embody a wide range of disciplines and approaches. Starting with the Untitled art piece of Guy de ROUGEMONT where his own definition of modernity based on his "unfinished" concept is apparent. That is where one can observe the shapes visible on top of the white canvas which he left at it's natural state. The serpentine line that he affectionates creates some distorted threads and movement reminiscent of the Mannerism art of the Late Renaissance.
On the other side of the Room, a video installation, presents the shadows of American plants and Orchids brought from the Americas by Alexander von Humboldt in the early 19th century. The unique historical herbarium Impressions de Plantes (Ms 998) conserved at the Bibliothèque de l'Institut de France and other prints of Orchids from Humboldt, Bonpland and Kunth French collection of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle have been interpreted by Colombian Artists Claudia Isabel NAVAS and Ramon LASERNA through the metaphorical work around migration and survival in different types of environments and ecosystems throughout continents and frontiers. Orchids are singular flowers that live on trees, soil, or rocks, and survive to the wilderness of Nature in an independent and strong way preserving their balance amidst the external circumstances: such is the balance in the ecological-relationships between the Orchids and the very diverse ecosystems they live in and that is shown in the photographs of Mario Alberto PEDRAZA.
People, like plants, migrate through continents and borders for differents reasons and by different means. The selection of portraits of the people's bodies through space and time such presented in Beyond Borders show a wide range of techniques and places.
The Pinhole-based photo documentary Pop 66 by Wes POPE shot in the mythical Route 66 (USA), or the Polaroid serie of portraits taken by Christian McMANUS called Evolution. Or, other serie Quartiers du Monde where particular sites have been re-interpreted by McMANUS by mixing the colors and chemicals of the Polaroid's during the drying process to blur the borders and to bring a distortion effect of the sites as we know them in everyday-life moments.
The more intimate portraits of John LEE who followed the road trip of a Chinese circus in the USA in the late 20th c., or those filled with wit that Yvette Marie DOSTATNI photographed from Mississippi to Chicago remind us of the multiplicity of lives moving along in this world.

le 14 juin 2021 à 15h30 à l'occasion de l'exposition Beyond Borders qui se tiendra durant la Biennale de Venise dans l'espace
