Alberto Baraya
Alberto Baraya is a Colombian artist whose work questions scientific knowledge and the instruments that legitimize it, namely expeditions and museums. His most important project, Taxonomy for the Artificial Plant Herbarium, is a proposal that questions the scientific paradigm, and at the same time reflects on everyday aesthetic acts. His work criticizes scientific processes and questions the role of herbariums as witnesses to a vanished world in which plastic has become predominant. He immortalizes a nature that has become rare. Celebrated in many countries, Colombian artist Alberto Baraya has represented Colombia at Art Basel Miami in 2019 and ARCO MADRID in 2021. He holds a degree in fine arts from the National University of Colombia and a doctorate in aesthetics and art theory from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
